About this transcript: Soon after Osler's death in 1919, Lady Osler asked their good friend Dr. Harvey Cushing to write a biography. For this project, Cushing gathered a wide variety of material, including a substantial amount of Osler correspondence and other memorabilia borrowed from Osler's family, friends, and colleagues. He employed three secretaries to transcribe these documents, and later donated the transcripts (along with his other working materials) to the Osler Library. Because many of the original documents were returned to the owners, the Cushing transcripts constitute the largest and most accessible collection of Osler's correspondence.
Harvey Cushing's "Life of Sir William Osler" was published by Oxford University Press in 1925, and was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1926.

To W. O. from Dr. Flick.
Philadelphia,
March 4, 1904
My dear Dr. Osler:
Dr. Ravenel has informed me that the committee the other night adopted the resolution which I had made with the amendments which had been presented before I left. As Professor Maragliano will be in this country during the latter part of this month it has occurred to me that it might be a good plan to hold the meeting sometime near the date of his lecture so as to give the Western men an opportunity of attending the lecture at the same time that they come to the meeting. The date of Maragliano's lecture will be either the 28th or 31st of March. Perhaps it also might be good plan to hold the meeting in Philadelphia, and if this is deemed the proper thing to do we shall be glad to provide the hall here at our expense. Inasmuch as entertainment will be given to Prof. Maragliano the same entertainment will perhaps answer for the delegates. These things are all in your hands and I submit the suggestions to you for consideration.
In order to expedite your work is getting delegates I submit to you the following list of organizations in Penna., which ought to be invited to send delegates. The Penna. Society for the Prevention of Tuberculosis, Dr. Howard Anders, 1836 Wallace St., Phila., President; the Free Hospital for Poor Consumptives, Miss Helen C. Wainwright, 627 Linden St., Scranton, Pa., Secretary; Mont Alto Camp for Consumptives, Dr. J. T. Rothrock, Penna. Dept. of Forestry, Harrisburg, Pa., Secretary
The following individuals likewise should be invited: Dr. Samuel B. Dixon, Academy of natural sciences, 19th & Race Sts., Phila.; Dr. John H. Musser, 1927 Chestnut St., Phila.; Dr. J. C. Minor, Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; Dr. H. M. Neal, Upper Lehigh, Pa.; and Dr. B. H. Detweiler, Williamsport, Pa.
I have quite a collection of names of men throughout the United States who have done good work in tuberculosis and if I can be of any service to you in supplying you names of persons who ought to be invited I shall be very glad to help you.
Yours truly,
Lawrence F. Flick.
