In this speech given at the medical conference of the Muscular Dystrophy Associations of America in New York City, May 17,
1952, Fogarty reviewed the growth of medical research funding since 1940, and the difficulty of allocating it disease by disease.
He urged the MDA to band together with similar groups and work with an appropriate institute at NIH to help make the case
for research funding.
