Memorandum from Eliot Stellar, National Academy of Sciences (re: Turkish surgeon Nihat Sargin)
In this memo, the chairman of the Committee on Human Rights at the National Academy of Sciences urges action from members
on behalf of Turkish surgeon Nihat Sargin, who was sentenced to thirty-six years in jail for "membership in an illegal
organization," was likely tortured in state custody, and was considered a "prisoner of conscience" by several
international human rights organizations.
