Preliminary Observations of the Chromosomes of Neurospora Crassa
This article on the fungus Neurospora crassa developed out of McClintock's work at George Beadle's lab at Stanford
University during the last several months of 1944. McClintock set the number of haploid chromosomes at seven and described
distinguishing chromosomal details of the fungus.
