Dear Hinshelwood:
I am writing to say that I look forward to taking part in the Tercentenary Celebration of the Royal Society next summer, and also to tell you something about some of my work, in which I am sure you will be interested.
You may know that for some years I have been interested in research on the chemical basis of mental disease. In part in connection with this work, I began to think about the question of anesthesia, and I have now developed a detailed molecular theory of general anesthesia. I am engaged in preparing a manuscript describing this theory, and I hope to have it completed in two or three months. I am not sure about the publication of it, but I may submit it to NATURE. Also, I have begun some experimental investigations suggested by the new theory.
I look forward to having the opportunity of discussing some of these questions with you in London next summer.
With best regards, I am
Sincerely yours,
