I just learned that ACS has approved my Faculty Research Award application, which will help a great deal to relieve me from
the heavy teaching responsibility. I wish to thank you for your letter and support.
Not much news from here, except Wynne started sequencing the activated erbB (Teddy's 7258 clone). The LTR is located about
500 to 700 nucleotides upstream from the 0.37 Kb exon (the 5' -- most exon homologous to V-erbB) and points to the same
direction as erbB. The last two TTs of LTR are missing (erything [sic] else is identical to Ron's SRA-2 sequence) -- fairly
convincing for upstream integration.
Congratulations for another prestigious award for Mike and you (Paul informed me). We are all happy about this. Some of us
including Don and Paul are betting that when the human oncogene story is more clear, you and Mike will be going to Stockholm
and dance with the Royal family!
Don told me that next year's Cold Spring Harbor Symp will be on Oncogene. If you happen to know the organizer, please
tell me, I wish to write him or her to have chance to present our work.
