Congratulations again on being selected as the Passano Foundation Laureates for 1983. The Directors were all very enthusiastic
about choosing you, and we all look forward to having you in Baltimore for the awards ceremony.
The black-tie awards ceremony itself will take place on Monday, March 14, 1983 here in Baltimore at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
The ceremony begins with a cocktail hour at 7:00 p.m. followed by a dinner at 8:00 p.m. and the presentation of the awards.
During the awards presentation, a brief evaluation of the work of the Laureate is made for the invited guests. The Medical
Directors of the Foundation have suggested that Dan Nathans, who is one of our Directors, do the evaluation of your work.
If you would like him to be the evaluator, I will be very happy to ask him for you.
It is also our custom to have the Laureate deliver an hour-long lecture on the subject of his work to the Baltimore medical
community. The lecture is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on March 14 at the University of Maryland School of Medicine Auditorium.
I need to have both of you figure out whether you both want to speak about various aspects of your work or whether you want
just one of you to speak. We do print up a program for the lecture, so I need to have the title of your lecture and then the
information about the speaker or speakers.
Also, for the brochure at the awards ceremony, I need to have a black and white glossy photograph of each of you.
The last thing that I need is a list of guests whom you would like the foundation to invite to the lecture and reception on
your behalf. In the past our Laureates have suggested up to six guests or couples.
I have booked a double room for each of you at the Baltimore Hyatt Hotel for Sunday night March 13, 1983 and Monday night
March 14, 1983. Written confirmation of those reservations should mail to you shortly. You will, of course, come to the ceremonies
as the guest of the foundation, and we shall reimburse for any expenses incurred.
Because of our March 14 date and printing requirements, we are in a bit of a time crunch. Therefore, I need to have from you
the lecture information, your guest lists, and a glossy photograph no later than Friday, January 21.
