Restriction Enzymes and the "New Genetics," 1970-1980
December 5, 1972
I enjoyed seeing you on your recent visit and comparing our results. You will be receiving a small honorarium from the University.
This week we plan to grow H. influenzae and H. parainfluenzae in the 300 liter fermenter at NIH and will soon have a lot of
the respective restriction enzymes. Also, Ham Smith has fractionated the Endo R of H. influenzae into two or three components.
One of these appears to make 5 breaks and another 6 breaks in SV40 DNA. I'll let you know shortly whether we can get larger
quantities of these separated enzymes.
