Dear Dr. McConnell:
I shall be sending you the digest of 32P SV40 DNA you requested. It took a while to prepare a new batch of DNA.
In regard to nomenclature, Arthur Landy has grouped fragments of similar size by letters (A, B, C . . .) and then called them A1, A2, etc. within each cluster. I also use this designation for SV40 variant fragments of intermediate size (see Virology 54, 384, 1973).
I shall be in Europe at the end of May and may be able to take you up on your kind invitation to visit you in Dublin.
Sincerely,
Daniel Nathans
Enclosed is a pre-print of a paper on nomenclature and a preliminary method for separating Hin enzymes. You may find the "clot assay" useful.
