Dear Francis,
Thanks for your letter and for your note. As you will see from the enclosed "Third Power Footnote", I agree of course with your calculation, but I do not agree with your interpretation of our footnote. This is evidently due to the contraction in our footnote of an argument which should have been given in more detail.
Both your note and mine should help to clarify possible misunderstanding, and I assume that both could appear in a same issue of the J. Mol. Biol. If we decide to publish them.
I am sending a copy of the "Third Power" one to Jef and to Jean-Pierre. I suppose they would agree to sign it with me.

P.-S. 2 - What is your present estimate of the life expectancy of the Salk?
