Dear Mary:
I'm sorry you were unable to attend the December 9th meeting of the Executive Committee of the Committee for National Health Insurance.
The meeting was a full one with both an assessment of the 1981 legislative situation with regard to health care at the national level and a spelling out of program activities for the coming year.
In essence the Committee for National Health Insurance decided to broaden its function to provide an action center for the dissemination of information and the organization of activities to advance health care measures. At the same time we will actively oppose proposals which will reduce or abolish current important programs like Medicare, Medicaid, health planning and the Health Service Corps.
We will continue to press for national health insurance, as the opportunities present themselves and to fight against proposals which offer the facade but not the substance of universal, comprehensive, cost effective and quality controlled coverage.
I attach for your information a copy of the CNHI program for 1981. I believe you will find it in accord with your views of the needs of the new situation in which we find ourselves in Washington.
I look forward to our continuing to work together in this important common cause.
Sincerely,
Douglas A. Fraser
Chairman
