Description:
In this article, Szent-Gyorgyi reported on his initial experiments using minced pigeon breast muscle. He observed that the respiration process could be slowed by adding malic acid, and accelerated by adding succinic and fumaric acids. This was the first indication of their role as catalysts in the process.
