Author: Joshua Lederberg. Date Written: August 7, 2002. KW: this was a seminar I gave at the Zoology Department at Columbia, work I had been doing in Ryan's lab. It documents the start of my own research in transforming cross-able microbes, leading in turn to trials on sex in E. coli. The Beadle Harvey lecture was Febr. 15 '45; I would guess the talk would have been ca. June or as late as September 1945. The appended pages on Plasmodium life cycle are not immediately germane to my talk. They reflect most closely my work doing malaria diagnostics at USNH St Albans.; 8/7/02
