In the fall of 1996, DeBakey advised Yeltsin's physicians, and supervised Yeltsin's quintuple coronary bypass surgery, which was performed by Dr. Renat S. Akchurin. (Dr. Akchurin is standing to the left of DeBakey in this photo.). AGIO Pharmaceuticals is a Russian based company formed in 1991 "to augment a focused approach towards global pharmaceutical brand marketing." The company operates in Europe, Asia, and Africa, and has a strong presence in the Indian domestic market.
