- Paul Dudley White (1886-1974) was one of the leading cardiologists of the mid-20th century. He was chief consultant to the National Heart Institute from 1948 to 1955, and often testified in the House HEW appropriations hearings. His patients included President Eisenhower. Fogarty came under his care in June 1953 when he had his first heart attack. White became a friend, and continued to remind Fogarty to lose weight and get more exercise.
