Nirenberg was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship from the American Cancer Society in 1957 for further work in biochemistry under the sponsorship of Dewitt Stetten, Jr., at the National Institute of Arthritis and Metabolic Diseases. This photo was taken after the DeWitt Stetten, Jr. Museum of Medical Research was established in 1986 as part of the NIH centennial celebration.
