- Description:
- This article is one of the first published reports of Marshall Nirenberg's work during his transitional move toward neurobiological investigation. Experimental findings in the article show that when tumor cells shift from the dividing to the non-dividing state, they are influenced by the expression of a set of genetic characteristics required for neuron differentiation. As progeny cells remained committed to a program of neuron differentiation, the authors anticipated implications for the study of healthy neurons--the "possibility" that "normal sympathetic neuroblasts are also inversely committed to a pattern of neuronal differentiation."
