In 1978, Children's Hospital moved from its outdated dilapidated quarters on Bainbridge Street in South Philadelphia to a new building adjacent to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. The new building, with a modern, much longer operating room, was the most expensive building in the state of Pennsylvania at the time.
