Third grade students of the "Smoke-Free Class of 2000" at Ferrisburgh Central School, Vermont
Date:
March 1984
Description:
In May 1984, Koop launched a "Campaign for a Smoke-Free America in the Year 2000", an effort to integrate anti-smoking messages and events into the K-12 school curriculum. Koop hoped that if students received information on the health consequences of smoking in every grade, they would reject the use of tobacco and endorse further restrictions on smoking in public places.. The back of the photo reads: "Bridgette Husk calling up her 3rd grade sponsor to support her Smoke-Free effort through the year of school."
