- Title:
- A Moral Monodrama: The Citizen and the Doctor
- Creator:
- Gorman, Mike
- Date:
- 4 May 1964
- Description:
- For this presentation, Gorman was elected an honorary member of the American Psychiatric Association. Gorman reflected at length on the historical role of physicians as highly skilled servants of their society, then advised that modern physicians relinquish their God-complex, and start supporting policies that benefit society (such as Medicare coverage of mental health care), not just narrow professional interests. A shorter version of this speech was published in the American Journal of Psychiatry in May 1965.
