Szent-Gyorgyi received the 1937 Nobel Prize in medicine for "discoveries in connection with the biological combustion processes, with especial reference to vitamin C and the catalysis of fumaric acid.". This photograph was used in a lecture entitled "Albert Szent-Gyorgyi; Scientist and Humanist" given by Andrew G. Szent-Gyorgyi at Marosvasarhely, Hungary on April 23, 1999..
