This work, though rejected by Szent-Gyorgyi's supervisor at Groningen, caught the attention of Sir Frederick Gowland Hopkins at Cambridge University. When he met Szent-Gyorgyi in person in 1926, the eminent biochemist offered him a research fellowship, during which Szent-Gyorgyi did his initial work with vitamin C.
