Later in his career, Freis became increasingly interested in how aging affected responses to antihypertensive drugs. In this article, he reported on a study of several different drugs, including two thiazide diuretics, a beta-blocker, and an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. The study showed that patients over 50 years of age were more sensitive to the effects of diuretics, but not to the effects of the beta-blocker or ACE inhibitor..
