In this short article, Freis chronicled the evolving attitudes of primary care physicians towards hypertension. Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, he noted that far too many doctors still considered it a "benign disease." To counteract this, Freis advocated a three-step response: the implementation of an intensive education campaign for medical professionals, the organization of screening programs, and the creation of a cooperative relationship between doctors and the media in order to change popular perceptions of hypertension.
