This fourth chart compares the differences between ATP and GTP in dissociating pre-bound glucagon from a liver membrane cell receptor. As one can see by the charted lines in the upper right hand corner of the page, a smaller concentration of GTP could dissociate what a much larger concentration of ATP could accomplish in the same period of time. From these experiments, Rodbell concluded that, of all the nucleotides, GTP was the most effective biological catalyst.
