Letter from Charles R. Drew to Robert J. Coffey (January 18, 1950)
January 25, 1950
Dear Dr. Drew:
You may be assured that I shall be delighted if you use my name in support of your application for Fellowship in the American
College of Surgeons. Without reservation I don't believe that I have to tell you that I cannot think of a more deserving
individual and one who would be more desirable in the American College of Surgeons. As you know, they will send forms directly
to me which I will complete most willingly.
I read with a great deal of interest your comments about the set-up at Gallinger and, as I told you a year or two ago, I will
support in every way your participation when you feel sufficiently manned in your department to handle it. If you would like
to start out with one man, that will meet with my complete satisfaction. However, I would like to sit down and talk with you
about it some time at great length. Will you call me at some convenient time and we will arrange a meeting.
