Telegram from Christian B. Anfinsen, Victor Weiskopf, Marshall W. Nirenberg, Alexander Rich to Carlos Chagas
In this telegram to the president of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences at the Vatican, Anfinsen and others appealed for the
Pope's intervention on behalf of four Argentine scientists during his upcoming visit to the South American country.
The Committee on Human Rights of the National Academy of Sciences has made repeated inquiries to Argentine authorities since
April 1977 about the whereabouts and well being of the Argentine physicists Federico Alvarez Rojas, Gabriela Carabelli, Antonio
Misetich and Eduardo Pasquini who are among the disappeared persons. We would appreciate your asking his holiness on the
occasion of the visit to Argentina to intervene on behalf of these scientists and for other disappeared persons so that relief
may be obtained.
