Keynote Presented to the Region II Conference on Aging, Newark, New Jersey
As he did in other speeches on the aging process, gerontology, and the health of the elderly, Koop in this speech strove to
change perceptions of old age as no more than a prelude to death, and instead challenged health and social service professionals
to help the elderly prolong their healthful and active years, though not to prolong the act of dying.
