This report to the Board of Directors at the Rockefeller Hospital focused on the work of Avery, MacLeod, McCarty, and others on transformation. Although their findings on the transforming principle would not be published for one more year, most of the basic experimental information was accumulated and summarized in this report. The report includes a brief history of the scientific research on bacterial transformation conducted by Avery and others.
